Frimley Park –Easter weekend 6-9th April (Report by Anne Alderman)

The weather over Easter was fantastic. If I hadn’t offered to work, I probably would have camped, as I was so jealous of those camping!

The weekend got underway for the lucky campers on Friday. And it obviously got off to a good start (or bad for Pete?) when I sent a text asking if Pete had managed to get his big tool out to play with. The reply I got was that it was a bit rusty as he hadn’t used it over the winter……………..And so the weekend had started!! (If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Pete’s big tool in action, you’ll just have to come camping with us! I think he only gets it out at weekend, but obviously you’ll have to ask Wendy about that!)

Saturday - Starters

We entered a starter’s team consisting of Snip, Bailey, Angel & Honey. That gave us 3 older dogs, with Honey being the inexperienced one! They all raced well (if some a little slow!), and everyone enjoyed themselves. Results:

Jelly Babies ‘v’ Grayshott Flyers: Lost 0-3 25.87

Jelly Babies ‘v’ Soxon Runners: Lost 1-3 30.15 (lost 1 leg thro’ interference)

Jelly Babies ‘v’ Brimblecombe Rescuers: Lost 2-3 28.17

Jelly Babies ‘v’ Bishops Advocates: Lost 0-3 27.21

Jelly Babies ‘v’ Hotshot Havagoes: Lost 0-3 28.62

Apparently the standard of starters in this Div was extremely high!

Sunday

The happy campers had a day off, and went for a lovely watery walk locally.

Monday

We had both teams in Div 3. Unfortunately Beau & Claire were unable to come (due towork commitments), and Dave was apparently feeling extremely poorly, but managed to come anyway!

Hotdogs (Molly, Katie, Tosh, Tess & Alfie) were seeded 4, and Ballsorts (Archie, Beano, Spencer & Meg) seeded 6. And there was only 0.4sec separating all 6 teams seed times – it was going to potentially be a day of close racing…………..

Race 1: Ballsorts ‘v’ Marsh Cheetahs – Lost 0-3. Archie managed to run out every time, much to everyone’s concern – Angel was 5th dog to be pulled in if needed!! Best time NT!!

Race 2: Hotdogs ‘v’ Maple Leaf Stampede – Won 3-1 Molly ran out, so pulled Tosh in to see if we could win……Best time 20.31

Race 3: Ballsorts ‘v’ Knights – Won 3-0. Got Archie back on track! Beano continued with late passes, as no need to push. Best time 20.97

Race 4:Hotdogs ‘v’ Aces Rapids – Won 3-1. Molly did go wrong, but got a 2nd chance because when the opposition made a mistake. Managed to get a few right, so giving us a win! Best time 19.79

Race 5: Ballsorts ‘v’ Aces Rapids – Won 3-2 Ran well. Needed to bring Beano’s passes up a bit. Got them running low 20’s, then 1 perfect start & 3 good passes gave them the win they needed with a best time 19.93.

Race 6:Hotdogs ‘v’ Marsh Cheetahs – Won 3-1. Had a hope for Molly, as supposedly her better lane. But no sooner had she arrived at the box, than the opposition’s dog ran across to her. After that she ran round, so we pulled her out. Best time 20.12

Race 7: Hotdogs ‘v’ Ballsorts – 3-0. Harvey had to run with no assistance! Not sure what Beanos passes like…….but Hotdogs obviously decided that Ballsorts were too much of a threat, so put in their best racing of the day. Best times Hotdogs 19.40 & Ballsorts 20.49.

Race 8:Ballsorts ‘v’ Maple Leaf Stampede –Won 3-2. Needed to win this race!! And we had some very close racing, right down to the last 2 dogs, and every tim. Meg just managed to over take on the line! The judge had to ask times virtually every race (0.07sec split them roughly!) The last race was really neck & neck all the way!! Best time 20.38

Race 9: Hotdogs ‘v’ Knights – Won 3-2. Again Molly pulled out due to her "twizzling" this time! Best time 20.56

So Hotdogs came 1st best time 19.40secs, and Ballsorts 3rd, best time 19.93secs. I think we all had an enjoyable day…..even Dave when he raced Spencer!!
