Thame Country Show - Easter Weekend - (Report by Anne Alderman)

Saturday

Both Hotdogs and Allsorts were able to compete on the Saturday. With the weekend Agility shows starting we were short of a dog or two, so a slight re-arrangement of teams was necessary.

In Div 3, (Allsorts) we had Monty, Badger, Eddie, Lady, Snip and Fudge. We were seeded 3 with a fast seed time (20.32). I wasn't sure how we would fair against the other teams in this Div. First up we were against the Cracker Jacks. The racing turned out to be very close, and we won 3-2, with a time of 22.89. Next up, were the Red Wellies. They were on top form, and beat us 3-0.

Hotdogs were again in Div 1, seed 3. Abby, Barley and Spencer were joined by Ben and Breeze as lead dogs, and Molly used our warm up time to have a play (She ran very well). With out Bazil, I thought our times would be slower than usual, but we had to give it a go! First on, our 'current rivals' the Jumping Jacks. Ben raced here, to give as a chance of winning. He raced well. We won 3-2, with a best time of 19.49. Next up were Back on Track, who today went off the rails! Breeze raced here, as time wise we don't stand a chance! They had a few faults, but narrowly beat us 3-2.

Back to the Allsorts, who were racing the Springboks. Their seedtime was faster than ours, and they were today as well! We lost 3-1, but with a best time of the day, 22.19. And finally, the Melton Foxes. They were having a few problems, and we won 3-2. We came 3rd in the Division, which I thought was excellent!

After lunch, we went back to the Hotdogs. Both our next two teams were having problems, but we felt we had more of a chance against Bad Dog Meecos, if everything went OK! Ben was again brought in here, and again we managed pull off another win, 3-2, with a best time of the day, 19.16. So finally, Melton Rovers. As expected they managed to sort out all their problems by this final race, and beat us 3-1! And in now typical style, we went into a 3 way run off for 3-5th places, against these two teams! Ben also gained his FDg title (as did Breeze at Mkt. Harborough). Well done to both!

Ben was back in, as the races were 'sudden death' best of one! No chances here! First we were up against BD Meecos, and this time we lost. So definitely finally(!) Melton. And this one we won. So we were in that tiebreak situation again, where the fastest time from the run off wins. That went to J. Jacks. We were 4th, and BD Meecos 5th. Again, I thought we managed to do well.

Sunday

Sunday saw the return of cleverdogs. As usual, the standard gets higher every year, and this year is certainly no exception! Pairs for this year are Breeze and Monty, Ross (today Fudge stood in!) and Ben, and Badger was asked if he would partner Becky and 'The Ice Man - Andy'. All 3 pairs qualified (there were 9 pairs!) and the results were:

1st Badger & Becky
3rd Breeze & Monty
5th Fudge & Ben

In the Mini cleverdogs, the standard has much improved. I don't think I saw one dog running around having fun at the expense of 'his' owner! Barley set a scorching pace with a qualifying time of 17.36, (which was about the average time of the fast collies!). And duly won overall. Even in racing, she was still doing 17 secs, and the second fastest dog was about 25secs.

Monday

I pulled Breeze out of the ABC's as I realised she was 'training' me to go back up the jumps with her! So back to the drawing board!

As cleverdogs is gaining in popularity, there was 3 Divisions, plus the ABC's. The results were:

Badger 5th ABC
Ben 1st DIV 2
Abby 3rd DIV 2
Monty 1st DIV3
