Petersfield - Sunday 17th March - (Report by Anne Alderman)

Thank you to those of you who helped with box judging - particularly those who were there first thing in the morning!

Now, I must confess to loosing (in the wash) my piece of paper with the results on, so this will be short and sweet and from memory…………………….

BA was seeded 3 in Div 3. We only had 4 races so I decided to keep Eddie and Toddy racing all day, and then pair them up with Ben and Badger, and Lady and Breeze on alternate races. We lost our first two races (narrowly!) in the morning, but worked out we could possibly beat the two teams in the afternoon.

First we were against the Stonechats (or one of their teams!). We were 2-2, and racing was extremely close, so I decided to exchange Lady for Ben in the last leg. Unfortunately, Toddy fumbled the ball, and then Jan got a flying pass. Jan felt we could win, as the opposition also had a light, so re-ran Eddie. Danny also had the same thought, and had already released Toddy from the back of the hall. Both Toddy and Eddie arrived at the box, but Dave had only loaded one ball! Blame the box loader…………..! So we lost 3-2.

Our final race was against the Springboks. Badger and Ben raced this one, and managed to give us a win. This meant we had a three way run off with both these teams.

As Ben had just raced, and the run off was 'sudden death' I swapped him for Breeze. We managed to beat the Stonechats this time, but narrowly lost out to the Springboks. Stonechats had beaten the Springboks, so we were back to where we started! (All winning one race each). So the places were decided on the best time in the knock out. Springboks were 3rd (21.17), we were 4th (21.20) and Stonechats 5th (21.41), so it was very close. Our best time of the day, however, was 20.41. Toddy also gained his FDi. Well Done!

BH also only had 4 races. The first two in the morning they lost (no chance against the Barkshire Bandits and Back on Track). During the afternoons racing we beat the J. Jacks, but lost out to Bad Dog Meecos. I believe we had a best time of 18.30, so breaking our record again!

Thank you again to Tina and Andy (and Rachel, and Rebecca!) for staying until the very end, picking up all the rosettes! For those who were there to see, the highlight of their day must have been when Tosh was stolen from under my nose, literally! Whilst I was talking to Claire, Derek (Buccaneers) unhitched Tosh from his lead, and sat quietly with him. A crowd then had great entertainment watching me gradually lifting the lead up, until I realised he was no longer there! I can see my face now! I had horrors that he had gone out onto the racing lanes (while they were racing) and would be squashed, but at the same time I glared at his lead, which had no collar on it (weird!). It took a few seconds to hit me that everyone was laughing. I was still panic stricken, as I couldn't see Tosh until Derek stood up with him! I went home after that!!
